Course program
Internal Medicine – Evidence-based practice in clinical care 1. Frontal lectures (clinical cases) to understand: the concept of different type of prevention; refresh pyramid of evidence-based medicine sources; types of clinical and experimental studies; basic concepts on how to analyze a cardiovascular RCT; discuss how to apply the evidenced based result of a RCT to a clinical case. 2. Students will be asked to read and analyze with the help of a grid: - a prospective study (selected by the teacher) in order to understand when we could define a factor as prognostic for a certain disease and the clinical significance applied to a particular clinical case - a cardiovascular RCT selected by the teacher in order to understand the methodology behind an RCT and how to critically analyze methods, results.
Prerequisites
it is mandatory to have passed all the exams of the first and second year and 1 exam of the third year

Mandatory attendance
Exam mode
The students will have to discuss a clinical case, chosen by the teacher, in terms of definition of prevention and find out the how to identify “evidenced based prognostic” factors for that particular case and disease; identify methodological pitfalls and strength of selected part of a RCT chosen by the teacher. The following evaluation grid will be used: - Critical understanding of the case (types of prevention, Chronic disease, etc.): max score 4 - Describe methodology for a prognostic factor: max score 4 - Pitfalls and strengths of an RCT: max score 2
