Course program
Course Unit: Cardiology Contents: Cardiovascular diseases: signs and symptoms of cardiovascular diseases; cardiovascular risk factors; arterial hypertension and hypertensive urgency and emergency; ischemic heart disease: effort angina, acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina, myocardial infarction-STEMI NSTEMI- and major acute and chronic complications); major supraventricular and ventricular hyperkinetic and hypokinetic arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; valvular disease: mitral stenosis and regurgitation, aortic stenosis and regurgitation; primitive and secondary cardiomyopathies: myocarditis, endocarditis and pericarditis; congestive heart failure; pre-syncope, syncope, shock; acute heart failure, acute pulmonary edema; acute and chronic pulmonary heart disease; pulmonary hypertension; major cardiac tumors; congenital heart disease: atrial and ventricular septal defect, ductus Botalli patency, overview of the remaining congenital heart diseases; cardiac sudden death. ECG: fundamentals and interpretation. Overview of the main cardiovascular therapies. Professionalizing activities: history, clinical examination and auscultation of the cardiac patient; basis of instrumental diagnostic tools: ECG interpretation, mono-dimensional and two-dimensional echocardiography, chest X-ray; ergometry, scintigraphy, pharmacological stress echocardiography. Main laboratory markers. Overview of the main diagnostic imaging techniques: CT, MRI, cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography.

Course Unit: Cardiology Requirements: For a good understanding of the topics considered in this course, students should have adequately studied the subjects of the following exams: Biology, Histology, Anatomy, Pathological Anatomy, Clinical scientific method.
