International experiences
Sapienza offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad: in Europe and outside Europe, for short stays or longer periods, theses abroad, and much more.
Study periods in European countries: Erasmus
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and levels of study (including doctoral studies) and promotes the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ program allows you to attend courses and pass exams, with full recognition in your academic curriculum, or to carry out research for the preparation of your bachelor's or doctoral thesis.

Internships in European countries: Erasmus+ traineeship
Erasmus+ training mobility allows students to undertake internships at companies, training centers, and research centers based in one of the participating countries. The program allows students to undertake full-time internships abroad, which are recognized as an integral part of the study program. The internship can also be carried out after graduation, provided that the selection takes place before the degree is obtained. The number of months of mobility is added to those of the Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the program.

Study periods in non-EU countries: Overseas Program
Thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and its own contributions, Sapienza offers students the opportunity to spend a period of study, take exams, or conduct thesis research at one of over 200 non-EU institutions with which it has bilateral agreements. The Overseas mobility program provides a monthly contribution of €700 net per month for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onwards. The continuous stay abroad cannot be less than 90 days and can last for a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. The contribution can only be used once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza contributions.

Study or research periods in non-EU countries: Erasmus+ KA171 international credit mobility program - ICM
The Erasmus+ ICM program, funded by the European Commission, allows students and teachers to spend a period of study/research for their thesis or teaching/training in non-EU countries and provides a scholarship and coverage of travel expenses. All activities undertaken abroad will be recognized upon return from mobility by the relevant Sapienza professors, as established in the Learning Agreement. Student mobility can have a minimum duration of 3 to 6 months (possibly extendable up to a maximum of 12 months, the last 6 months of which without a scholarship - Zero-EU Grant mode). The ICM scholarship also covers mobility for doctoral-level research for the same duration. Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator based on the distance between the city of the university of origin and the city of the destination university.

The Study Program has entered into an agreement with the Master of Immunology program at Aix Marseille University, with the aim of promoting student and faculty mobility within the framework of the CIVIS Alliance. Each year, the Master of Immunology program at Aix Marseille University offers a number of scholarships to support training internships for Medical Biotechnology students at the Center's laboratories. The Administrative Manager for Mobility of the Degree Program (RAM) periodically organizes remote meetings with researchers in Marseille to facilitate knowledge and exchanges between students and the Center's laboratories.
Students are kept up to date on study, training internship, and thesis opportunities abroad, as well as on information meetings organized by the Faculty and the University's Erasmus+ department, through communications from the academic office.
The degree program periodically organizes meetings with foreign researchers, aimed at students interested in undertaking training periods in research laboratories abroad.
The degree program's teaching staff provide support and guidance in choosing the institution where students intend to spend their training period. Thesis experiences abroad are generally carried out within the framework of Erasmus+ agreements or by taking advantage of scholarships offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine.
In January 2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy established the Internationalization Commission, composed of 50% faculty members and 50% students. The Commission's role is to promote activities aimed at the internationalization of teaching, and for this reason, the three subject areas present in the Faculty are represented: Medicine, Pharmacy, and Biotechnology.
On the Faculty's website, the “Internationalization” page guides visitors to all international mobility opportunities aimed at:
Students (outgoing and incoming)/PhD students and young researchers/Teachers/International Networks
