TECHNICAL PHYSICS

Course objectives

The corse of the Applied Physics Environmental is to develop and deepen at application level the basic principles dealt with the courses of Physics, to provide the future engineer, an interdisciplinary training on technical application. The basic subject concern: the transmission of heat thermodynamics, acoustics and illuminating. The course introduce all elements of engineering closely related to environmental problems.

Programme Syllabus The course consists of 90 hours of lectures and exercises on the topics listed below, for a total of 9 ECTS. 1. Heat Transfer Steady and unsteady thermal conduction. Forced and free convection with laminar and turbulent flow. Friction factor and pressure drop. Heat transfer with phase change. Radiation heat transfer. Heat transmission across plane and cylindrical walls. Extended surfaces. Heat exchangers. Solar collectors. 2. Thermodynamics Thermodynamic systems and properties. Temperature. Work. Heat. First law of thermodynamics. Properties of a pure substance. First law of thermodynamics for open systems. Second law of thermodynamics. Thermodynamic cycles. Psychrometrics.
Prerequisites
Physics I, mandatory. It is additionally appropriate to have a basic knowledge of mathematical analysis and chemistry.

Exam mode
Written test and subsequent oral examination. The written test consists of questions on both theory and applications. The written test will be evaluated taking into account both the learning outcomes and the expressive language skills. The oral test deals with the discussion of the written test and one or two of questions on the main topics. The oral test will be evaluated taking into account both the learning outcomes and the expressive language skills. The final evaluation will take into due account the results of both tests.
