Objectives

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme aims to train building engineering professionals who are aware of the economic, social and environmental implications of transformations carried out on the territory. These transformations, which occur across different climatic and environmental contexts, form the basis of a sustainable approach to construction. The Programme trains professionals who understand the role that building activities play in protecting and enhancing the environmental characteristics of the territory, and who recognise the need for a sustainable vision of territorial transformation. This approach is grounded in a thorough knowledge of the physical, social, economic and environmental qualities of the territory, based primarily on the survey and analysis of the existing built environment, and on the use of techniques and materials with a low environmental impact.
Within this educational framework, in addition to the foundation subjects, the Programme includes core courses in building engineering integrated with traditional civil engineering subjects. Environmental sustainability receives particular emphasis through a selection of core and related subjects from the field of environmental engineering. This contributes to forming building engineering professionals who are aware of the sustainable dimension of the environmental changes produced by building activities on the territory.
In this context, the specific learning outcomes of the Programme aim to provide students with the ability to analyse, identify, understand and intervene in the complex relationships that exist among the many activities involved in management, design, construction and production, across the various operational scales that characterise the building sector. The sector is understood as the set of activities that transform the territory in its physical, morphological, economic and social aspects, with particular attention to the impact and sustainability of planned interventions.
To train professionals capable of operating effectively and responsibly within today’s complex structure of building processes and territorial transformation from a sustainable perspective, across different climatic and environmental contexts including international settings, the Programme provides students with the scientific knowledge necessary for appropriate technical and operational preparation in the fields of Building and Environmental Engineering. These disciplines focus on the organisation, protection and transformation of the environment and the territory where people live.
In this sense, the Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainable Building Engineering responds to clear and widespread cultural, social and economic needs in a sector of great importance. It addresses the demands of a professional field that requires advanced scientific and technological knowledge, capable of supporting design and management solutions for the wide range of interventions on the territory and the environment.
The educational path is structured by semester and is designed to ensure that competences and skills are acquired through a progression of increasing complexity.
The first year aims to provide foundation knowledge and applied techniques, giving students a scientific and technological basis for understanding the built environment and the practices used to intervene in it.
The second year aims to strengthen both the foundation disciplines and the operational technologies used in construction, while also providing essential training in engineering subjects.
The final year focuses on the subjects that characterise Sustainable Building Engineering, with special attention given to applied fields related to interventions in the built and natural environments.
In order to give future Sustainable Building Engineers practical experience in integrating the wide range of applications in which their competences will be required, the Programme also includes laboratory activities, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary, as well as opportunities for training internships.
