Degree programme choice orientation
The SOrT (Integrated Orientation Service) is Sapienza University’s integrated guidance service. The service has a central office located in the main university campus and several help desks distributed across the various faculties. At the SOrT offices, students can find more specific information related to faculties and degree programs, as well as receive support in making academic choices. The central office and faculty representatives coordinate orientation and tutoring projects for incoming students and provide information about the academic offerings and administrative procedures for course enrollment.

Orientation Initiatives and Projects
1. Porte Aperte alla Sapienza
This initiative, held every year at the main Sapienza campus, is the most important event dedicated to new freshmen—and not only to them. Over the three orientation days, students can meet professors and other students, receive information, and attend presentations in the Aula Magna introducing the academic offerings of all the University’s Faculties.
The initiative is open to all prospective students interested in enrolling in Sapienza’s Bachelor’s, Single-cycle Master’s, and Master’s Degree programs, with particular attention to those in their final years of high school.
The event offers an opportunity for all stakeholders to get to know Sapienza, its degree programs, study and cultural spaces, gathering areas, and the many services available to students (libraries and study rooms, museums, university residences, sports facilities, and the University Theatre).
In addition to academic information, during the meetings and at the Faculty stands along the University’s avenues, as well as in the virtual stands, it is possible to obtain guidance on general administrative procedures and, more specifically, on enrollment processes and calls for applications for admission tests.
To promote inclusive contexts and access to university education, the Office for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) organizes meetings to help manage academic careers through personalized study plans and by activating teaching, economic, and/or logistical support for students in vulnerable situations. The office also provides information on the procedures and necessary clinical certifications for requesting such support.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal
To assist students in choosing their degree program, Sapienza has developed an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) that allows an immersive preview of university life. Users can explore the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatre, and spaces dedicated to music and sports through interactive images and videos; access online learning modules on key subjects; and assess or strengthen their preparation for entrance or knowledge assessment tests.
The portal also serves as the main hub for information on orientation events organized throughout the year by Faculties and Departments. It hosts presentation videos of Faculties and degree programs (Bachelor’s, Single-cycle Master’s, and Master’s), particularly new programs. All orientation initiatives are promoted on the University’s social media channels to reach potential students effectively.
3. Self-assessment Tools (developed and scientifically tested by Sapienza experts)
a. “Know Yourself” – Designed to support decision-making in choosing a study path. Once completed, it provides a personality profile, an academic profile, and a professional profile.
b. “Me, Myself, and Others” – Measures soft skills, i.e., personal and social abilities relevant for integration into society and the job market.
4. Orientation Events
All orientation events organized by the University, Faculties, Departments, and CAD/CdS are listed chronologically on the page: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362.
The University supports students with disabilities and DSA throughout the delicate and crucial processes of orientation, evaluation, and selection. The Students with Disabilities and DSA Office evaluates which personalized measures are necessary for entrance exams based on the certifications presented.
For admission to programs with local or national enrollment limits, where selective entrance tests are required, students with disabilities can request various compensatory measures (e.g., dedicated room, extra time, reader or accompanying tutor, LIS interpreter, calculator), following the instructions in the admission calls.
Finally, the Students with Disabilities and DSA Office, with the help of specialized tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters, provides welcoming and support services for newly enrolled students in vulnerable conditions.
***Activities of the Degree Programs (CdS)***
The Master’s Degree in Data Science carries out its orientation activities in coordination with the University and Faculty initiatives, through participation in events such as Porte Aperte alla Sapienza, its presence on the Sapienza Orientation Portal (also available in English), and by publishing detailed information on the official websites of the degree program and the Faculty.
The program also takes part in OpenDI, an annual event organized by the Department of Computer Science, featuring a day dedicated to presenting the Department’s educational offerings for prospective Bachelor’s and Master’s students. During OpenDI, the Data Science program is showcased through dedicated sessions, short seminars, and interactive discussions with faculty members, PhD students, and current students.
Information activities are further supported by specific initiatives targeting students from related Bachelor’s programs, including meetings that introduce the Master’s educational offering, present its learning objectives, career opportunities, admission procedures, and program structure.
During these meetings, the Program Chair and members of the Orientation and Tutoring Committee answer individual questions and clarify organizational and academic aspects.
All prospective students may also contact the SOrT office using the contact details provided on the program’s and Faculty’s websites.
The Sapienza Orientation Portal (available in English) provides an immersive preview of university life through videos and images of facilities, including the Data Science program presentation video: https://youtu.be/IuRjMpBePGs.
