Course program
The course will cover the fundamentals of media science as a basis for acquiring skills in the analysis of information and advertising media, and for moving toward the production of web-based communication environments or materials. Theoretical learning and practical activities in analysis and design will combine knowledge of the history and functioning of media with skills in the use of digital environments and technologies, possessed by students to a lesser or greater extent at the outset, to form effective communication skills. Particular attention will be paid to the concepts of imagery and sociology of imaginaries, understood primarily as metaphorical systems with the function of collective identity constructions.
Prerequisites
The course is open only to students whose last name begins with a letter between A and L.
Books
1. Brancato S., Chirchiano E., Fichera F., Il mondo dei media. Sociologia e storia della comunicazione, Guida, Napoli 2018
2. Ragone G., Analogie 3. Il medium pubblicità, Liguori, Napoli 2015
Frequency
There is no real distinction between attending (net-learning) and non-attending (e-learning), since the syllabus is the same. The only real difference is that those who decide to attend the in-person classes, in addition to being able to interact with the lecturer, will have the opportunity to organize themselves into groups of 3-7 people and to carry out in groups instead of individually the third test only ("communication project"). The discussion and elaboration of the project together with the lecturer is scheduled only for the groups of frequent attendees. Non-frequent attendees will do the work individually and without the advice of the lecturer.
Exam mode
Assessment is based on three tests:
1. Online test 1 to be prepared on the indicated textbook (Brancato S., Chirchiano E., Fichera F., Il mondo dei media. Sociology and history of communication, Guida, Naples 2018) and the general mediology video lectures uploaded on the platform)
2. Online test 2 to be prepared on video lectures and exam text (Ragone G., Analogies 3. The advertising medium, Liguori, Naples 2015)
3. Script: creation and presentation of the communication project (to be prepared with the help of the textbook, video lectures, video seminars, exam text + video lectures by Prof. Tarzia held in the course year and uploaded to the platform)
To pass the exam, one must have achieved a passing grade (min. 18/30) in all tests. Each test will be sustainable only after finishing the previous one. Attending students will form into groups and work collegially on the communication project.
Lesson mode
PLEASE NOTE: Prof. Fabio Tarzia's Institutions of Mediology (2023-2024) course (6 cfu) will be conducted in blended learning or hybrid learning mode. This means that the number of scheduled face-to-face lectures will be less than usual and the rest of the work will take place on the platform, where students will find uploaded materials and pre-recorded video lectures that will complete the preparation to face the exams. The latter will be three and of different characteristics (test 1 and 2 + preparation of a written project) and will always be taken in the platform.
Therefore, please be advised that there is no oral examination. Once the tests have been completed and an average above 18 has been achieved, the student will register on Infostud for the simple verbalization of the grade.
