Functions

Graduates are equipped with the necessary training to pursue careers in the
following fields (subject to competitive examinations, professional
qualifications and/or registration with specific professional associations where
required):
- Public and private entities, publishing companies, and institutions that
promote cultural activities and operate in the humanities for the preservation or
use of cultural heritage (e.g. press offices, newspaper and magazine editorial
offices, publishing houses, archives, museums, and exhibition spaces).
Graduates of this Programme can pursue careers in areas such as disseminating
ancient culture, translating texts from ancient languages and creating
multimedia products and resources for language learning.
However, it should be emphasised that this degree is considered the
international equivalent of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, which is often a
minimum requirement for certain job positions. Furthermore, the majority of
students on degree programmes such as the Classics Degree Programme tend
to continue their studies. In this case, graduates are more likely to pursue
further studies at a foreign university, typically at postgraduate level, although
they can also choose to continue their studies in Italy.

Skills

These courses are designed to train graduates to become cultural heritage
experts. They provide students with the interdisciplinary knowledge required
for master’s degree programmes and/or entry into the international workforce.
Graduates must possess a thorough grounding in classical civilisations,
specifically in the following areas:
- knowledge of the languages, literature and history of Greece and Rome;
- relevant vocabulary;
- an understanding of historical and literary developments and the enduring
influence of classical literature on medieval, modern and contemporary
culture;
- solid expertise in literary text interpretation methods and purposes;
- proficiency in translating and interpreting Greek and Latin texts;
- mastery of philological methods;
- mastery of historical reconstruction and interpretation methods;
- the ability to critically analyse complex texts in various ways;
- the ability to contextualise, describe and analyse complex events and
phenomena within their historical and geographical contexts;
- the ability to interpret phenomena within the context of long-term history;
- the ability to argue and discuss complex theses, even on abstract topics.
The development of transversal skills will enable graduates of this Programme
to enhance their advanced expressive abilities in oral and written
communication, as well as their critical, logical, and interpretative skills.
Another key objective is to ensure that graduates can continuously update their
professional skills and utilise essential technological tools for word processing,
image management, data management and communication.

Thanks to the skills they have acquired in the field of cultural heritage,
graduates will have access to a variety of international career opportunities.
They can work in organisations and institutions specialising in cultural
heritage, as well as museums, libraries, archives, film libraries, and
archaeological parks.
Graduates can also find employment in companies and organisations involved
in the protection, promotion and dissemination of cultural heritage, as well as
in the communication and publishing sectors.
