Translation theory
Course objectives
A) Knowledge and understanding: the student will know the main theoretical aspects of translation and interpretation, the semiotic transformations from the prototext to the metatext (i.e. the translation process), the elaborate taxonomies that provide for various types of translation and interpretation, from endolinguistics, to interlinguistics, to intersemiotics. B) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in the science of translation in the choice and implementation of translation and interpretation techniques, doing thant in different contexts and through different communication channels, adapting to the needs that the situation requires . C) Autonomy of judgment: the student will be able to make careful and motivated decisions about the most appropriate translation and interpretation methods according to the different situations; D) Communication skills: the student will be able to explain and motivate the main aspects related to his/her interpretative choices and will be able to argue the main implications and / or critical issues from an application perspective; E) Learning skills: the student will learn to use the tools necessary to go deeper into the methodological aspects of translation, using audiovisual materials and video recording archives, to independently search for materials on which to practice.
