Objectives

The educational programme aims to provide students with a cultural education that responds to the processes of modern, multicultural society. The degree programme as a whole takes into account the wealth of educational opportunities offered by the Faculty and is linked to it, with a view to promoting and developing its interdisciplinary nature.
The specific objective of the degree programme in Languages, Cultures, Literatures and Translation is to provide students with a basic cultural, linguistic, translation and intercultural communication education.
To this end, particular attention is paid to the in-depth study of the cultures of the languages studied, so as to enable their appropriate use in various fields and lay the foundations for further study. At the end of the three-year programme, all students will obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Languages, Cultures, Literatures and Translation, which will give them the opportunity to access Master's Degree programmes and further levels (doctorates and master's degrees) that will qualify them professionally or for teaching and research purposes. Those who, on the other hand, wish to enter the world of work after obtaining their first-level degree will have a range of possibilities available to them: in addition to the traditional field of teaching, career opportunities are offered by the ability to work in areas such as publishing, journalism, cultural institutions, activities related to the field of mediation between European and non-European cultures, organisations operating in the field of information and cultural transmission, etc. Particular attention is also paid to the modern era, with an emphasis on Europe as a linguistic and cultural reference point, but with a broad openness to non-European realities.
The presence, alongside the five official languages of the European Union (French, English, Portuguese, Spanish and German), of a wide range of languages belonging to different families (Romance, Germanic, Slavic and Finno-Ugric), makes it possible to offer a highly effective educational programme from a cultural point of view for possible interdisciplinary horizons.
In full accordance with the name of the course, students will be able to make choices aimed at deepening their cultural knowledge, which is a necessary prerequisite for true social and political integration and an indispensable condition for effective intercultural communication.
In addition to Italian, graduates in Languages, Cultures, Literature and Translation will be able to use the languages of study effectively at a level not lower than CEFR B2, in both written and oral form, with reference also to disciplinary lexicons. In any case, written and oral proficiency in at least one European Union language, in addition to Italian, is required, at a level equal to or higher than CEFR B1.
For English alone, the CEFR C1.1 exit level is required.
The courses are divided into:
1) core subjects (i.e. foreign languages and their respective literatures): students must choose two languages, which will be studied in parallel over the three years; among the core subjects, in the second year there is an exam relevant to a philological discipline linked to one of the two languages of study (or both, if they belong to the same language family);
2) basic subjects: in the first year, students study a subject related to Italian studies and literary criticism, while in the third year, they study a historical subject;
3) related subjects: between the second and third years of the course, students study subjects in the historical-cultural, geographical and literary fields and have the option of adding a third language;
4) between the second and third years of the course, students may also choose to take optional courses.
Finally, the programme includes an internship or other training activities (AAF) in the third year: students may participate in internships organised by the University or by external institutions affiliated with the University. Alternatively, during the three-year course, students will have the opportunity to accumulate credits for AAF by participating in training activities aimed at this purpose (introductory orientation course, conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.).
The programme described here aims to provide comprehensive training that, alongside the development of language skills, allows students to acquire a wide range of philological, historical-cultural and contextual skills useful for the training of the profiles indicated.
