Romanian Translation III

Course objectives

The course sets out to teach translation proficiency based on a number of skills, including both linguistic and cultural competence. Previously acquired knowledge of Romanian language text linguistics, semantics and pragmatics will be applied to the practice of text translation

The aim of the module is to introduce students to the practice of translating from Romanian into Italian a selection of texts taken from the verse collections of Gellu Naum and Florin Bican dedicated to the stories of Apollodorus, with a particular focus on the translation process of the stylistic and formal elements that make the writing of the two authors unique. production and comprehension skills (written and oral) equal to level A2 of the ‘Common European Framework of Reference for Languages’.

Frequency
Attendance is not compulsory. The syllabus and exam format are the same for attending and non-attending students. Non-attending students may agree on an individual plan.
Exam mode
The Translation Workshop includes a written translation test that will take place at the same time as the written Language Workshop test, at the end of the semester. The translation will be assessed and discussed during the oral examination. Lecture The lecture involves writing an essay in Romanian on a topic proposed by Dr. Nesu and an oral exam that will test the skills acquired during the oral practice exercises. Both exams (written and oral) will be assessed with a summary evaluation rather than a mark out of thirty. The dates of the oral exam for the lecture are the same as those published on INFOSTUD. The final mark, out of thirty, will be awarded on the basis of the written translation test and its analysis; the marks for the Language Course tests (written and oral) will also be taken into account when awarding the final mark.

Lesson mode
The Translation Workshop takes place in the second semester in the form of a collaborative translation workshop. Given the seminar-style format, which requires active participation from students, attendance is strongly recommended, although not compulsory. The Language Workshop takes place in the second semester and includes grammar exercises and discussion of texts written by students.
