RULES OF THE COURSE OF STUDY IN LINGUISTIC AND INTERCULTURAL MEDIA - Class L12
Effective date of the Regulation: academic year 2025-2026
Date of approval of the Regulation: 16/04/2025
Didactic structure responsible: SEAI Department
Art. 1 - THE COURSE OF STUDIES
The Degree Course in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation is a three-year degree course with programmed access established within the L12 Degree Class and governed by the University Teaching Regulations in accordance with the law, ministerial provisions and statutory directives.
Art. 2 - TRAINING ACTIVITIES
The Degree Course is structured in a single curriculum, which provides for the compulsory study of two languages until a medium-high level of linguistic and communicative competence is achieved, as well as knowledge of the relevant cultural and textual heritage.
The curriculum is organised in seven different areas
1) "basic" subjects: these are followed in the first year and include General Linguistics (compulsory teaching, 12 CFU) and a subject of choice from the field of Italianistics (12 CFU)
2) Foreign languages: compulsory two foreign languages among those offered by the Course (24 CFU in the first year; 24 CFU in the second year; 12 CFU in the third year). The foreign language courses include, in addition to the module taught by the lecturers, language exercises with mother-tongue Collaborators and Linguistic Experts (CEL).
3) Fundamentals of Interculture and Foreign Cultures and Literatures. In the first year, students follow two "Fundamentals of Interculture" courses (12 CFU total) linked to the two languages of study in which basic tools on intercultural mediation are provided both on a theoretical level and on the ways in which intercultural mediation is realised in the various cultures of reference. In the second year, on the other hand, students follow courses in the cultures and literatures related to the two chosen languages (24 CFU in total).
4) "Related" subjects. These are subjects in the fields of history, geography, law, economics, pedagogy and political science that serve to personalise the course and can be undertaken in both the second and third year (30 CFU in total).
5) "Student's choice" subjects (second and third year). This area gives students the opportunity to choose from all the courses offered by the University (18 CFU total).
6) Internships and Other Educational Activities (6 CFU): these can be carried out throughout the three-year course. The degree course offers the possibility of carrying out these activities through agreements with organisations and institutions outside the University or through active participation in events, events and meetings organised by the degree course lecturers.
7) Final Examination (6 CFU)
For the structure of the courses, the specific educational objectives of the courses, the relative CFUs and the hours of frontal teaching for each course, please refer to the Educational Offer published annually on the Course of Study page.
It should be noted in particular that the total CFUs attributed to the study of foreign languages also include exercises with linguistic collaborators and experts (CELs) as indicated in the programmes of the language courses
2.1 WORK PLACEMENTS AND OTHER TRAINING ACTIVITIES
Students are required to obtain 6 CFU as part of Work Experience and Other Formative Activities, through the activities proposed by the Course of Study or other activities proposed by the students and recognised in advance by the lecturer responsible for Work Experience, if relevant to the course of study of the Degree Course.
Internship activities may be carried out throughout the three-year degree course, and are recorded in the third year of the degree course by the lecturer or lecturers in charge.
2.2 STRUCTURE OF TEACHING, PROPAEDEUTICITY, ATTENDANCE
The language courses are divided into modules (face-to-face lessons), taught by the lecturer or lecturer in charge of the course, and language exercises with the Collaborators and Language Experts (CEL).
The Language courses provide for propaedeuticity between the different years: the Language 1 exam must be taken before the Language 2 exam, the Language 2 exam before the Language and Translation 3 exam; failure to comply with the propaedeuticity results in the cancellation of the CFUs acquired.
The Course of Study does not provide for compulsory attendance.
2.3 CHOICE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
The Degree envisages the compulsory study of two three-year foreign languages chosen from among those available. The examinations of "Fundamentals of Interculture" and "Literature and Culture" must be consistent with those of the chosen languages, according to the following scheme:
- Albanian Language - Fundamentals of Albanian Interculture - Albanian Literature and Culture.
- Czech and Slovak language - Fundamentals of European interculture: Czech and Slovak - Albanian literature and culture.
- French language - Fundamentals of French interculture - French literature and cultures.
- English language - Fundamentals of English interculture - English-speaking literature and cultures or Anglo-American literature and culture.
- Neo-Greek language - Fundamentals of European Interculture: Neo-Greek - Neo-Greek literature and culture.
- Portuguese and Brazilian language - Fundamentals of Portuguese and Brazilian interculture - Portuguese literature and culture.
- Romanian language - Fundamentals of European interculture: Romanian - Romanian literature and culture.
- Russian language - Fundamentals of Slavic interculture - Russian literature and culture.
- Spanish Language - Fundamentals of Interculture-Spanish or Fundamentals of Interculture-Hispano-American - Spanish Literature or Hispano-American Literature and Culture.
