Course objectives

The course aims to analyze tourism as a social phenomenon, from the "foreigners' movement" up to the Baumanian dichotomy of a tourist / vagabond. We will review the historical and social stages that have transformed the traveler into a globalized tourist, highlighting the various types and ways of "doing tourism". Particular attention will be given to the influence of information technology in the tourism sector, focusing in particular on the changes that new communication technologies are introducing in tourism demand and supply. The student will be trained, with the use of an advanced bibliographer, to autonomously develop the skills necessary to apply the sociological knowledge in the professional field of tourism management and marketing, being able to autonomously formulate personal conclusions and apply them in socio-economic contexts. cultural activities. As a consequence, it will have the ability to carry out in-depth analyzes and updates of the knowledge intended for professional application and research.
