Course program
Basic Elements of Transcendental Idealism: the Transcendental Aesthetics and the first part of the Transcendental Analytic in Kant's Critique of pure Reason The course is intended as a presentation of the fundamental elements of transcendental idealism. It will begin with an outline of the role and the position of Kant's system in relation to post-Cartesian metaphysics, which shall include some comments on the «thing in itself» issue. Secondly, I will propose an analysis of the Transcendental Aesthetic and of the Analytic of Concepts. Topics will include a priori forms of sensibility (space and time), categories or pure concepts of the understanding, transcendental apperception. The course is also intended to explain Kant's fundamental argumentative strategies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the whole history of philosophy (corresponding to high school degree), and competent knowledge of modern philosophy starting from Descartes. Basic knowledge of philosophical vocabulary.

Frequency
Attending the course is strongly recommended.
Exam mode
A paper is required to be admitted to the exams. It should consist of a detailed analysis of a text section (texts will be provided during the course and published on Classroom). Mandatory due dates for submission are to be found on Infostud. Exam will consist of 1. a discussion of the paper and 2. analysis of the course texts. Both concur in the same measure to the final evaluation.
