History of Archaeological Research in the Ancient Near East

Course objectives

The course aims to provide basic knowledge and understanding in the field of Archaeology and Art History of the Ancient Near East, with a particular focus on the History of archaeological research in the area. The course will offer an overview of the evolution of archaeological research in the Near East, with a focus on theoretical aspects and methodological approaches. A portion of the course will also be dedicated to the reception of Near Eastern discoveries in the contemporary world. Upon completion of the course, students will have gained a general understanding of the methods of analysis and critical interpretation of archaeological and art historical research in the Ancient Near East, as well as theoretical aspects and related methodologies. Students will therefore be able to communicate acquired knowledge competently and reflectively, formulating independent judgments, and developing the skills necessary for further studies.
