Objectives

The Master’s Degree Program in Oriental Languages and Civilizations requires that the graduate—who must already be able to use a European Union language in both written and spoken form—acquire proficiency in at least one Oriental language aimed at both oral and written communication, accompanied by knowledge of its literary history, both ancient and modern. This knowledge will be further enriched by the detailed study of all possible ideological, religious, philosophical, and aesthetic dimensions—analyzed in their historical development—that characterize the culture and civilization associated with the chosen Oriental language, with the possibility of expanding expertise in ancient studies related to the cultural areas covered by the degree program.
The educational program, structured over two years, provides—each academic year—for the continuation of the study of the first Oriental language and literature chosen during the bachelor's degree, at least one exam in linguistic or philological subjects (related to the first Oriental language), as well as the study of and the possibility to take at least one exam in historical, history‑of‑religions, philosophical, and art‑historical disciplines related to the selected cultural area.
