Degree programme choice orientation
SOrT is the integrated Orientation service of Sapienza University.
The service has a central office in the University City and additional counters located within the Faculties. At the SOrT, students can find more specific information about the Faculties and study programs, as well as support to guide them in their choices. The central office and Faculty professors coordinate incoming orientation projects and tutoring, and provide information on the educational offerings and the administrative procedures for accessing the programs.
Orientation Initiatives and Projects:
- "Open Doors at Sapienza"
This initiative, held every year at the University City, is the most important event dedicated to incoming students and beyond: during the three days of orientation, participants can meet professors and other students, receive information, and attend presentations in the Aula Magna about the academic offerings of all the University’s Faculties. The initiative is aimed at anyone intending to enroll in Bachelor's Degree programs, Single-cycle Master's Degrees, and Master's Degrees at Sapienza, with particular focus on students in their final years of secondary school. The event provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to get to know Sapienza, its educational offerings, study and cultural spaces, student gathering places, and the many services available to students (libraries, study rooms, museums, university residences, sports facilities, and the university theater). In addition to information about academic programs, during the meetings and at Faculty stands along the university’s walkways, as well as in virtual stands, attendees can get details about the administrative process, both general and more specifically, about the enrollment procedures for various programs and access to specific information regarding the calls for participation in entrance exams. Furthermore, to promote the development of inclusive environments and access to higher education, the Office for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities (DSA) promotes spaces for discussion on career management through personalized and individualized study plans, with the activation of educational and/or financial and/or logistical support available for vulnerable students. Finally, the Office guides students through the procedures for requesting support, indicating the clinical certifications that can be submitted. - Sapienza Orientation Portal
To support the process of choosing a study program, the University has created an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) that offers an immersive and anticipatory experience of university life: users can navigate through images and videos of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, the theater, and spaces dedicated to music and sports; access online learning modules on the main topics covered in the courses; assess and improve their preparation for entrance exams or knowledge assessments.
Additionally, the portal serves as the primary point of contact for information about orientation events organized by the various Faculties and Departments throughout the year and hosts videos introducing the Faculties, Bachelor's Degrees, Single-cycle Master's Degrees, and Master's Degrees, especially for newly established courses. All orientation initiatives are promoted through the University’s social media channels to engage potential students who might be interested. - Self-Assessment Tools (developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically tested).
a. "Know Yourself": Effective in supporting the decision-making process aimed at choosing an educational path. Once completed, the tool provides a personality profile, an academic profile, and a professional profile.
b. "Me, Myself, and Others": Allows users to measure soft skills, i.e., the attitudes relevant for integrating into society and the workforce. - "Orientation Events"
On the page https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362 all orientation events organized by the University, Faculties, Departments, and CAD/CdS are listed in chronological order.
The University supports students with disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities (DSA) in the delicate and crucial process of orientation, assessment, and selection for admission.
The "Office for Students with Disabilities and DSA" assesses which individualized methods for carrying out the entrance exams are necessary, based on the certifications presented by the students.
For enrollment in study programs with a limited number of places, either local or national, where a selective entrance exam is required, students with disabilities can request a range of compensatory measures (e.g.: dedicated classroom; additional time; Reader Tutor; Escort Tutor; LIS Interpreter; calculator), following the procedures outlined in the calls for admission to the programs.
Finally, the "Office for Students with Disabilities and DSA" takes care of welcoming students who enroll at Sapienza and are in a vulnerable condition, with the support of specialized tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters.
