Course program
The course is aimed at studying the fundamental aspects of general etiology and damage mechanisms, cell adaptations and cell death, inflammation, reparative processes and neoplastic transformation. Neoplasms: generalities, classification, epidemiology. Cancer Hallmarks. Genetic susceptibility to tumors. Genomics in oncology. Immunity in oncology. Biological and molecular bases of tumor therapy. Hormone-dependent tumors: integrated pathological and molecular classification of breast, ovarian and prostate tumors. Etiopathogenetic mechanisms that characterize the different types of tumors. Hereditary and sporadic forms. Tumors of the digestive system: integrated pathological and molecular classification of tumors of the esophagus, stomach, colon, pancreas and liver. Etiopathogenetic mechanisms that characterize the different types of tumors. Hereditary and sporadic forms. CNS tumors: integrated pathological and molecular classification of adult and pediatric tumors; Etiopathogenetic mechanisms that characterize the different subtypes of tumors. Pathophysiology of thermoregulation: febrile and non-febrile hyperthermia. Atherosclerosis: Pathogenetic mechanisms, formation of atherosclerotic plaque. Pathophysiology of the heart: cardiac hypertrophy, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, diseases of the pericardium, myocardium and endocardium. Rheumatic disease. Pulmonary pathophysiology: Obstructive pulmonary diseases: asthma, emphysema. Restrictive pulmonary disease. ARDS. COVID-19. Pathophysiology of haemostasis and thrombosis Alterations in blood pressure. Ischemia, Hemorrhage, Embolism. Shock. Kidney pathophysiology: acute and chronic renal failure. Pathophysiology of the renin-angiotensin system. Gastrointestinal and hepatic pathophysiology: acute and chronic inflammatory pathologies of the esophagus, stomach, colon, pancreas and liver. Chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Pathologies due to functional disorders. Pathologies due to absorption disorders. Pathologies due to impaired transit. Pathophysiology of endocrine diseases: hypothalamic-pituitary axis neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathologies; hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, benign and malignant thyroid tumors, autoimmune, neoplastic and genetic adrenal gland diseases. Pathophysiology of metabolic diseases. Classification and etiopathogenesis of the different forms of diabetes mellitus. Mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
