Course program
- Laboratory workflow: analysis requests, preparing patients for blood draws/sample collection, transport, acceptance, and storage of samples, and reporting.
- Interpretation of laboratory data: biological variability and measurement variability, analytical validity (accuracy, precision, analytical sensitivity, analytical specificity, robustness, analytical range, measurement range, quality control), and clinical validity (diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, positive and negative predictive value) of a laboratory test.
- Main immunochemical techniques: precipitation, agglutination, immunological assays (competitive, immunometric, and immunobinding), lateral flow methodology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.
- Main biomolecular biology techniques: electrophoretic techniques, Western Blot, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, digital PCR, Sanger sequencing, second- and third-generation sequencing, single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics.
