Ofa: methods of fulfilling additional training obligations

In order to access the degree programme, students must take a mandatory, non-selective assessment test to verify their initial knowledge, with the assignment of Additional Training Obligations (OFAs). For details, please refer to the Call for Applications.
The test consists of an online test (TOLC-S, also available in TOLC@HOME mode) administered through the platform on the dates and in the sessions indicated on the CISIA website at this link
TOLC@HOME tests are administered at the candidates' homes, using tools and technologies capable of creating virtual classrooms in a secure and controlled environment, where each candidate can be correctly identified and can take their test independently.
Through the administration of entrance tests developed by the CISIA consortium (TOLS-B and TOLC-S), the degree programme, in collaboration with the Faculty, identifies those who must fulfil Additional Training Obligations (OFAs) and directs them to dedicated services in order to fulfil the requirements.
For the degree programme in Natural Sciences, those who have obtained a score of less than 8/20 in the basic mathematics questions in the TOLC-S and, at the same time, an overall score of less than 22/55 are considered “OFA debtors”. If at least one of these two thresholds is reached or exceeded, the student will not be assigned the OFA. The outcome of the English section does not affect the assessment thresholds for passing the TOLC-S test and for the attribution of OFAs.
Students are not required to take the TOLC-S or TOLC@HOME if they have already taken the TOLC-B or TOLC-I. In this case, the OFA debt will be assigned to those who have obtained a score lower than 8/20 in the mathematics questions and a total score lower than 20/50.
The OFA debt can be remedied in two ways: by successfully passing the specially designed OFA verification test, or by passing the Institutions of Mathematics curriculum exam within the first academic year. Failure to complete the OFA will make it impossible to take exams relating to years after the first.
To facilitate the possible recovery of OFAs, the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences organises:

Other training activities that award credits

Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the L-32 degree programme in Natural Sciences will no longer include a curricular internship, but will instead focus on the acquisition of other skills useful for entering the job market (AAF1148, AAF1149) for which activation via the Sapienza TSP platform, required for internships, is not necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: students are not insured for activities carried out outside Sapienza facilities. For further information on activating insurance coverage, please contact the Academic Office before starting any external activity: didattica.dst@uniroma1.it
For students enrolled from 2021-2022 to 2023-2024, the training programme includes both activities aimed at acquiring other knowledge useful for entering the world of work (AAF1149), for which activation via the Sapienza TSP platform is not required, and curricular internships ( (AAF1040) , which must be activated  through the Sapienza TSP platform - further information in the “Internships” section below.

LIST OF TRAINING ACTIVITIES

  • Training activities organised by the Department - Go to the list
  • BIP Blended Intensive Programs) CIVIS - Go to the link - recognition of a minimum of 3 CFU up to a maximum of 6, in the following activities:
    - credits relating to "Further knowledge useful for job placement"
    - credits for elective courses (NOT OPTIONAL)
    - extracurricular credits.
For students of L-32 in Natural Sciences, any recognition of credits for participation in BIP CIVIS must be authorized in advance and discussed on a case-by-case basis. Please check with the Academic Office: didattica.dst@uniroma1.it to find out whether and how the chosen activities can be recognized as AAF1148 or AAF1149 within the educational program.
  • Training activities organised by the University - go to the link -- please note: write to the Education Office didattica.dst@uniroma1.it to ensure that the activities chosen are recognised as AAF1148 or AAF1149 within the training programme, and procedures required.

PLEASE NOTE: AAF2441 - THE SCIENCES OF SUSTAINABILITY IN PHYSICAL AND NATURAL MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES, 2 CFU, First Year Second Semester

  • CANNOT be recognized as an AAF
  • BUT ONLY as a 6 CFU COURSE AT STUDENT'S CHOICE - For further information on this teaching go to this link .

Apprenticeship

TSPStarting from the academic year 2024-2025, the degree program in Natural Sciences does not include a curricular internship, but the acquisition of other knowledge useful for job placement (AAF1148, AAF1149) for which activation through Sapienza TSP platform, provided for internships, is not necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are not insured for activities conducted outside Sapienza facilities. For more information regarding activation of insurance coverage, before starting an extgernal activity, contact the Education Office: didattica.dst@uniroma1.it

For those matriculated in previous years , the study programme provides, according to the year of matriculation, curricular internship activities (AAF1040, 1043, 1046) .
Internships must necessarily be activated using the Sapienza TSP platform
Before submitting a project and starting the activity you must contact the contact person for internships Prof. Paolo Ciucci, email paolo.ciucci@uniroma1.it (in copy the teaching secretariat: didattica.dst@uniroma1.it ) sending: 1) name of the host institution, 2) brief description of the activity to be carried out (training project). You will then be guided through the different administrative steps.
MPORTANT: schedule the internship on time!
The internship can begin only when the training project document is signed by the host, intern and the university and after the status is changed
from APPROVED to ACTIVATED. The internship cannot be backdated under any circumstances.
The system does not allow for exceptions in the deadlines or in the procedures provided for administrative paperwork
For information on procedures go to the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences page

PLEASE NOTE: AAF2441 - THE SCIENCES OF SUSTAINABILITY IN PHYSICAL AND NATURAL MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES, 2 CFU, First Year Second Semester

  • CANNOT be recognized as an AAF
  • BUT ONLY as a 6 CFU COURSE AT STUDENT'S CHOICE - For further information on this teaching go to this link

Path of excellence

The Honours Programme aims to enhance the training of meritorious students who are enrolled in the degree programme and are interested in further studies and cultural integration activities.
Honours Programmes includes additional educational activities and provide a special certificate.
for students who have won the excellence program, the advisor and topic of the final graduation thesis must be different from those of the excellence program. For each student admitted to the excellence program, at the end of the academic year the Academic Area Council (CAD) will carry out a review of the activities chosen by the student, based on a report from the student's supervising professor. In order to successfully complete the excellence program, the student, in addition to having carried out the activities specific to the excellence program, must have earned all the university credits required in the second year (including the graduation exam) by October 31 and must have achieved a weighted arithmetic average not less than twenty-seven/thirtieths.

Further information can be found in the Honours Programme Regulations for the Degree in Natural Sciences (Class L-32) - Go to the link
