Course objectives

The general objective of this course is for the student to acquire knowledge and skills useful for designing in a museum context, analyzing trends at a national and international level. The student's critical and creative thinking skills will be enhanced by exposure to the processes of cataloging, digitalization, and multimedia communication. The student will subsequently be capable of enhancing the cultural heritage and successfully implementing these elements into the museum. Course program
Introduction to the subject: definition and basic concepts. Origins and history of multimedia. Evolution of multimedia learning. Mayer's theory and its principles. Museums yesterday, today and tomorrow: from nineteenth-century exhibitions to the digital museum. Digitalization and innovation plan for Italian museums. Key tools and experiences for understanding and developing multimedia in museums.
Books
There is no a reference textbook for the course part about Multemedia. Teaching materials, including handouts, thematic websites and scientific articles will be distributed in class and posted on a dedicated Moodle page.
Frequency
Attending the course is highly recommended.
