Application Process – Step by Step
To apply for admission, please follow these steps:
a. Pay the €10 Application Fee
You must pay a €10 fee following the deadlines and procedures listed in Section 3.
b. Wait for the Results of the Entry Requirements Check
If you don’t meet the academic requirements, you may still be eligible by completing individual courses to earn the missing credits.

c. Take the Personal Preparation Assessment
Follow the instructions in Section 4.
d. Finalize Your Enrollment
Once you receive email confirmation that both the entry requirements and personal preparation have been approved, you can proceed with enrollment by paying the tuition fees as described in Section 5.
Applicants from Other Italian Universities
After paying the €10 fee, applicants from other Italian universities must send a self-certification of completed exams, including subject areas (SSD), ECTS credits, exam syllabi, and final degree grade.

Applicants Who Have Not Yet Graduated
If permitted by the program regulations, students who haven’t yet earned their Bachelor’s degree (from Sapienza or elsewhere) may still apply, provided they graduate by:
- January 23, 2027 – for students graduating from Sapienza
- December 19, 2026 – for students from other Italian or foreign institutions
Procedures differ according to nationality and country of residence.
For applicants with citizenship in non-EU countries, residing abroad and applying for a study visa, and for applicants from China and participating in the Marco Polo project who choose the English language curriculum: In these cases, it is necessary to have the mandatory pre-acceptance letter. For those with non-EU citizenship, permanently residing abroad, who apply for a visa for study purposes and who choose the Italian language curriculum: These applicants are not obliged to obtain the pre-acceptance letter but must pass the Italian language proficiency test (level B2), or must have an Italian language certificate of at least level B2, issued by recognised organisations (https://www.esteri.it/it/diplomazia-culturale-ediplomazia-scientifica/cultura/promozionelinguaitaliana/certificazioni-linguistiche) as indicated in the Ministry of University and Research Circular. Following the successful outcome of the entry requirements assessment, or upon receipt of the pre-acceptance letter, those in possession of an educational qualification obtained in a non-Italian education system must complete the enrolment procedure for the two-year Master's degree programme as indicated in section 4 of the International Student Office page https://www.uniroma1.it/en/pagina/international-student-office#4-mandatory-documents-for-enrolment-master-s-degree-courses

2. Admission Requirements
Eligible candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Laurea Triennale) in L-36 (Political Science) or L-37 (Development Studies) and demonstrate English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level in L-LIN/12 (English Language).
Graduates from other degree programs are also eligible, provided that they meet the following requirements:
- They have obtained English language skills in SSD L-LIN/12 (English Language) at a minimum of B2 level;
- They have earned at least 90 ETSC in the disciplinary areas listed below (Note: only for this first requirement, credits from related fields are counted);
- Their credits are distributed in such a way that their academic background (related excluded) covers all three of the following disciplinary areas.
3. Entry Requirements Evaluation
You must pay a €10 evaluation fee via Infostud starting July 2, 2026, by choosing one of the following deadlines:
- September 15, 2026 – only valid for non-EU students requiring a visa who have already completed the Universitaly procedure
- October 15, 2026
- November 17, 2026
- December 17, 2026
- January 14, 2027 – only for students graduating from Sapienza
- Pay online via PagoPA through Infostud

4. Personal Preparation Assessment
To enroll in the Master's program, your academic background must align with the program’s focus on socio-politics, economics and statistics and international law areas related to international cooperation.
If your degree background is not fully aligned, you may be required to complete individual courses before enrolling. These may be taken at any accredited university (Italian or international), as long as you complete them before finalizing your enrollment.
Your preparation is assessed based on your degree and/or a Master’s (I or II level), your academic transcript, and your GPA or final grade.
English Language Requirements can be met by:
- Completing a course in L-LIN/12 during your Bachelor’s degree
- Or holding one of the following certificates:
- IELTS Academic ≥ 6.0
- TOEFL iBT ≥ 80
- Cambridge B2 First or higher
- TOEIC L&R ≥ 720
- From countries where English is the official language
- With a degree fully taught in English in the EHEA area, US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
- Holding an International Baccalaureate, GCSE, or equivalent certification
5. Enrollment
After passing both the entry requirements and personal preparation checks, you may enroll by paying tuition fees through Infostud using:

For Students with a Foreign Qualification
Enrollment procedures vary depending on your citizenship and residency:
A. Non-EU citizens residing abroad or part of the Marco Polo program
Pre-acceptance is mandatory. Follow instructions in Section 7 of the International Student Office page.
B. Italian citizens, EU citizens, and non-EU citizens with a residence permit in Italy
Follow the procedures outlined in Section 8 of the same page.
C. Enrollment after Qualification Verification
Once your foreign qualification has been approved or a pre-acceptance letter issued, complete your enrollment following the steps in Section 4 of the International Student Office page.
