Seminars and Other Activities Useful for Entering the Job Market

The following activities are eligible for recognition:

- Attendance in additional academic or professional training courses, including university-level advanced training programs (such as CIVIS BIPs, MOOCs, or parts thereof) that align with the training objectives of the Master's program. These courses must include a final assessment and/or the issuance of a certificate verifying participation and the number of hours completed.

- Participation in extracurricular research activities carried out under the supervision of a faculty member affiliated with the degree program or with another master’s program within the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology, and Communication. Such activities must be properly documented and require a minimum commitment of 75 hours of work.

- Other qualifying laboratory or seminar-based activities related to the themes of the degree program, duly documented and requiring a minimum commitment of 75 hours of work.

The actual recognition is contingent upon prior approval by the professor responsible for recording the grade, who evaluates the activity’s relevance to the students’ academic program.

Students may include Seminars and Other Activities Useful for Entering the Job Market among their elective courses.

To obtain credit recognition for these activities, the student must send a request for ETCS validation to the Chair of the Degree Program (pierluigi.montalbanoatuniroma1.it) using the following request form: https://disse.web.uniroma1.it/sites/default/files/allegati/2025-12/LM81_..., also attaching all required certificates/documentation corresponding to the number of ETCS  included in their Study Plan.
At the same time, the student must register on INFOSTUD for the recording of the corresponding CFU in the first available session. Note: Credit recording will take place remotely, without the student being present. The record will remain open for two days after the recording date to allow students to report any transcription errors.

Apprenticeship

The study plan allocates 6 ECTS credits to an internship, which may be substituted with other educational activities aimed at supporting entry into the job market.

These credits may be earned through an internship of at least 150 hours, carried out at a public, private, or non-profit organization, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • The internship must be undertaken during the master’s degree program (not before enrollment).
  • The internship must be formally activated in accordance with legal procedures, as detailed on the AFE – External Training Activities website. Internships carried out without a prior formal agreement (convenzione) between the University and the host organization will not be recognized.
  • The internship must be approved in advance by both the academic tutor (for all procedures related to the Master’s Program in DICS, this is the Program Director) and the host organization’s supervisor. Both must sign the training project (progetto formativo) before the start of the internship and the final report upon its completion.
  • The internship must be deemed relevant to the master’s program or to specific courses within the curriculum by the academic tutor. Internships that do not meet the above criteria will not be eligible for academic credit.

Students may also obtain the 6 ECTS internship credits through other qualifying professional activities, provided these are undertaken after enrollment in the master’s program. These may include:

a) A qualified work experience of at least six months, corresponding to tasks requiring at least a bachelor’s-level qualification and considered relevant to the learning objectives of the program by the academic tutor. The activity must be documented through a valid employment contract (permanent, fixed-term, or project-based); Participation in the ;
b) An internal internship within Sapienza University (e.g., administrative offices, library, laboratories, or committees established by the Department Council);

Note: It is not possible to recognize other work-related activities as internships, such as the National Voluntary Civil Service or student collaboration grants carried out within the structures of Sapienza University of Rome. However, these activities may be included among the “other activities useful for entering the job market” or among the elective courses.

Sapienza manages internship opportunities through the Cineca-TSP platform:
https://uniroma1.tsp.esse3.cineca.it/pub/main-page
Students must register on the platform and search for available internship opportunities there.

For the prior approval of internships outside the TSP platform, or for verifying the relevance and compatibility of an internship experience with the educational objectives of the degree program, students must contact exclusively the Chair of the Degree Program, Prof. Pierluigi Montalbano (pierluigi.montalbanoatuniroma1.it).
