This program is offered in two tracks:

  • One entirely in English
  • One entirely in Italian

Each program allows students to take elective courses (in the Italian-language track, students may also choose courses taught in English, with the option to switch to the English-language track in the second year).
Students must select their courses by completing the Study Plan no later than May 30 of each academic year.

Rules for Compiling Study Plans – A.Y. 2025/2026 Master’s Program in Development and International Cooperation Studies

General Information

  • You may start attending whichever courses you prefer and decide later which ones to include in your official Study Plan.
  • Important: The window for compiling Study Plans for A.Y. 2025/2026 will be open from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Saturday, May 30, 2026.
  • Please respect this deadline. Otherwise, you will not be able to register for exams for the corresponding academic year.
  • Normally, the Study Plan can be compiled only once per academic year. We strongly recommend that you:
    • Read these instructions carefully,
    • Complete the Study Plan on Infostud without rushing,
    • Submit it for approval only when you are confident in your choices.

Students who already submitted a plan in previous years but wish to make changes for A.Y. 2025/2026 may do so during the same window (Nov. 15 – May 30).

Why compile a Study Plan?

Compiling the Study Plan is mandatory. All first-year students for A.Y. 2025/2026, as well as students from previous years who have not yet done so, must complete it within the given window. Failing to do so will prevent you from registering for exams in the corresponding academic year.

How to compile your Study Plan

  1. Log into Infostud and access your personal page.
  2. Go to Degree Programs (Corsi di laurea).
  3. In the left-hand menu, click Study Plan (Percorso formativo).
  4. Click Go to Study Plan (Vai al percorso formativo).
  5. At the bottom of the page, click Create a new Study Plan and begin filling it out.
  6. If the page shows the option “Individual Study Plan”, do not select it; choose “Curricular” instead.
  7. From the list of optional exams, select the ones you prefer.

Important Rules for Free-Choice Courses

  • You may not select:
    • Courses with the same or very similar title (epigrafe), even if offered by another Sapienza department.
    • Exams already taken or included in your previous Bachelor’s or Master’s program, even with a different number of credits (e.g., if you already took Contemporary History for 6 CFU, you cannot add a 9 CFU version of it).
    • Courses with different titles but identical or overlapping content (mutualized courses or courses with the same syllabus).
    • Students enrolled in the English-taught track are not allowed to include elective courses taught in languages other than English, with the exception of foreign-language courses.
    • The generic option “Free choice (A SCELTA)”. You must indicate the exact courses you plan to take.

"Other activities useful for the job market" may be included among elective credits. In this case, students enrolled in the English-taught track must maintain consistency with the selected language of instruction.

⚠️ Failure to respect these rules will result in the annulment of the exam(s) by the Educational Office during the final career check before graduation—even if the exams were already taken and registered.

  • There is no precompiled list of free-choice courses. You must search in Sapienza’s Course Catalogue under "Attendance" and select courses that respect the above rules.
  • Free-choice courses must be offered in the same academic year as your plan. You can make changes in future years if needed.
  • You may select:
    • Courses from your own program that were not chosen as curricular,
    • Or courses from any other Sapienza degree program, using the advanced search function.

⚠️ If you choose courses from other departments, please double-check the course code and teaching code with the hosting department. Otherwise, you may not be able to register for exams. In such cases, the Educational Office at DiSSE cannot assist you—you must contact the hosting department’s office.

Recommendation: To avoid delays (especially for your final exams and graduation), we suggest prioritizing courses within DiSSE, since other faculties may follow different calendars or rules.

Credits for Free-Choice Courses

  • You must complete 15 CFU of free-choice courses.
  • You may select:
    • One 9 CFU course + one 6 CFU course,
    • One 9 CFU + two 3 CFU courses (although rarely available),
    • Or even two 9 CFU courses (allowed if the total exceeds the requirement by no more than 3 CFU).

⚠️ Internship or traineeship credits cannot be counted as free-choice credits.
All curricular and extra-curricular elective activities should be certified in English.

Curricular Internship vs. Other Activities useful for the Job Market

  • The plan allows you to choose between:
    • Curricular Internship, or
    • Other Activities Useful for the Job Market
  • Please be sure to flag "Curricular Internship" only if you intend to do an internship with an external Organization. To this end, check the existing agreements on the TSP Sapienza platform: https://uniroma1.tsp.esse3.cineca.it/pub/main-page. You may also ask your organization to submit an application and register on the Sapienza TSP platform prior to the start of a new internship activity.
  • Work or volunteer activities outside TSP agreements cannot be recognized as internships.
  • Conversely, "Other Activities Useful for the Job Market" may include:
    • Additional training or professional courses (including CIVIS BIPs and MOOCs), with a final exam or certificate,
    • Extracurricular research activities under the supervision of a faculty member (with proper documentation and workload equivalent to the required CFU),
    • Workshops or seminars related to the program’s topics (with documentation and equivalent workload)

Please Note: Recognition of such activities is subject to the approval of the supervising professor.

Technical Notes

  • Once you compile your plan, the system will check for errors. If issues are found, click the ABC button (top left) for details.
  • If the plan is correct but you are not ready to submit, click Save as draft. You may save multiple drafts.
  • When ready, select the final draft, then:
    1. Click Submit,
    2. Click Request approval,
    3. Confirm submission. (If you don’t confirm, your plan will remain in draft and won’t reach the commission.)

After approval, allow 24–48 hours for the system (GOMP and Infostud) to sync so you can view and book exams.
⚠️ Do not wait until the last minute. Requests for urgent approval or changes right before exam deadlines cannot be processed.
