Degree programme choice orientation
SOrT – Integrated Guidance Service at Sapienza
The SOrT is Sapienza’s integrated guidance service. It has a central office at the main university campus and several desks located within the Faculties. At the SOrT, students can receive specific information related to Faculties and degree programs, as well as support in navigating their academic choices. The central office and Faculty staff coordinate guidance and tutoring projects and provide information about academic offerings and administrative procedures for admission.
Guidance Initiatives and Projects
1. “Porte aperte alla Sapienza” (Open Days at Sapienza)
Held annually at the main university campus, this is the most important event dedicated to prospective students and new enrollees. Over three days, participants can meet faculty members and students, receive information, and attend presentations of all Faculties’ academic programs in the Aula Magna. The initiative is open to anyone interested in enrolling in Sapienza’s Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle Master’s, or Master’s programs, with a special focus on final-year high school students.
The event is an opportunity for all stakeholders to discover Sapienza’s academic offer, study spaces, cultural venues, meeting places, and the wide range of services available to students (libraries, study rooms, museums, university residences, sports facilities, and the university theatre).
In addition to academic information, participants can visit Faculty stands (both on campus and virtually) to obtain details on general administrative procedures and, more specifically, on enrollment processes and admission tests.
To promote inclusive contexts and access to higher education, the Office for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD/DSA) organizes dedicated spaces for personalized and individualized study plans, offering didactic, financial, and/or logistical support for students in vulnerable conditions. The Office also provides guidance on the procedures for requesting such support, including the clinical certifications required.
2. Sapienza Online Guidance Portal
To support students in choosing their degree program, Sapienza has created an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) offering an immersive preview of university life. Users can navigate images and videos of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatre, music spaces, and sports facilities; access online teaching modules covering core subjects; and prepare for entrance or knowledge assessment tests.
The portal also serves as the main contact point for guidance events organized by Faculties and Departments throughout the year, hosting video presentations of Faculties and degree programs—especially new programs. Guidance initiatives are also promoted through Sapienza’s social media channels to reach prospective students.
3. Self-Assessment Tools (developed and scientifically tested by Sapienza experts)
a. “Know Yourself”: supports decision-making in selecting a degree program. Upon completion, students receive a personality profile, an academic profile, and a professional profile.
b. “Me, Myself, and Others”: measures soft skills, i.e., the attitudes relevant for integration into society and the labor market.
4. Orientation Events
On the dedicated webpage, all orientation events organized by the University, Faculties, Departments, and Study Program Committees are listed in chronological order.
Support for Students with Disabilities and SLD/DSA
Sapienza supports students with disabilities and learning disorders during the crucial process of orientation, evaluation, and admission.
The Office for Students with Disabilities and SLD/DSA assesses the need for individualized arrangements for entrance exams, based on the certifications submitted by candidates.
For admission to degree programs with locally or nationally restricted access requiring a selection test, students with disabilities may request compensatory measures (e.g., dedicated classrooms, extra time, reading tutors, assistant tutors, LIS interpreters, calculators), following the procedures outlined in admission notices.
Finally, with the support of specialized tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters, the Office provides assistance to students in vulnerable conditions upon enrollment at Sapienza.
Degree Program Activities
On Wednesday, 25 September 2024, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Faculty Conference Center, the Department organized a Guidance Day for Master’s Degree Programs.
The event was structured into several sessions:
- Program Presentations: detailed overviews of available Master’s degree programs, study plans, and research and career opportunities.
- Student Testimonials: experiences and advice from current Master’s students.
- Meet the Faculty: opportunities to engage directly with professors for academic and career insights.
