Admission Requirements for the Master's Degree Program in Sociology for Sustainability and Analysis of Global Processes
Applicants eligible for enrollment in the Master's Degree Program in Sociology for Sustainability and Analysis of Global Processes must hold one of the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree obtained under the regulations of DM 509/1999 or DM 270/2004;
- A Specialist degree (ex DM 509/1999) or a Master's degree (ex DM 270/2004) in a class different from that of the program itself (LM 88 - Sociology and Social Research);
- A degree or university diploma of three years' duration obtained under the previous regulations before DM 509/1999 (“old system”);
- A foreign qualification recognized as suitable under current legislation.
Additionally, applicants must have earned at least 90 ECTS credits in one or more of the above qualifications through curricular or extra-curricular exams in disciplinary fields included in the following list:
[Here follows the list of disciplinary codes and sectors exactly as provided, e.g., ICAR/15 - Landscape Architecture, ICAR/20 - Urban Planning, etc.]
Candidates must also pass a personal preparation assessment conducted through an interview with a specially appointed didactic committee. This interview aims to verify the applicant’s foundational knowledge in the disciplinary and thematic areas characterizing the Master's degree in Applied Social Sciences, and may provide guidance on the academic path. The modalities and evaluation criteria of the interview are announced every academic year well in advance of the scheduled dates. Applicants from Sapienza University or other universities who have not yet obtained their degree at the start of the academic year may apply for the admission requirements assessment, provided they complete the degree by the deadline established annually by the University.
Transfers, Changes of Program, and Credit Recognition
Admission to the Master's program in Applied Social Sciences is also possible through:
- Transfer from another Master's degree program at an Italian or foreign university;
- Change of program from another Master's degree within Sapienza University.
Transfers from other Master's programs are subject to the admission requirements and conditions specified above.
Recognition of ECTS credits already earned through exams passed in other Master's programs may result in the substitution of exams or parts thereof, at the sole discretion of the didactic area or a specially appointed commission, compatible with the study path, allowing for course shortening in accordance with current regulations. Recognized credits correspond to courses that form the common part and one optional exam group. Credits earned for different courses may be recognized if they fall within the relevant scientific-disciplinary sectors and have disciplinary and thematic content consistent with the educational objectives of the Master's program in Applied Social Sciences. Exams taken in “old system” degree programs prior to DM 509/1999 may be recognized up to 9 ECTS if annual and complete, and up to 5 ECTS if semester-based.
Credits may be recognized, in substitution for internships or alternative activities, at the sole discretion of the didactic area or appointed commission, for professional skills and competencies acquired and certified according to current regulations or gained through post-secondary training activities to which the University has contributed.
Credits related to the knowledge of languages other than Italian may be recognized, at the sole discretion of the didactic area or appointed commission, based on certifications of exams passed issued by internal or external bodies.
Students who obtain recognition of credits from other degree programs will be enrolled as follows:
- In the 1st year if recognized credits do not exceed 39 ECTS;
- In the 2nd year if recognized credits exceed 39 ECTS.
