La docente, considerate le buone prassi che dovrebbero caratterizzare i rapporti tra soggetti all’interno dell’istituzione universitaria, risponderà solamente ai messaggi di studentesse e studenti che:
1) riportino un oggetto chiaro;
2) inizino con un saluto formale seguito dalla propria presentazione (nome e numero di matricola e corso a cui si afferisce);
3) riportino con chiarezza la questione che si desidera porre;
4) non chiedano informazioni già presenti sul blog o sui siti istituzionali dell’Università;
5) non chiedano informazioni tecniche di competenza degli uffici amministrativi;
6) si concludano con un saluto formale.

Descrizione del corso:
Il modulo si concentra sull’umorismo nel campo della traduzione audiovisiva (Audiovisual Translation, AVT). Si partirà da una introduzione dei concetti teorici riguardanti lo studio dell’umorismo (Humour Studies), considerandone le sfide linguistiche, culturali e visive nella sua traduzione audiovisiva. In quest’ottica, saranno quindi discussi i concetti cardine collegati all’AVT e al suo sviluppo nelle ultime quattro decadi, facendo riferimento al doppiaggio, sottotitolaggio, voice-over, audio descrizione, ecc. Inoltre, si rifletterà sulle nuove tecnologie e come queste influenzino la pratica nelle varie modalità di traduzione audiovisiva dell’umorismo. Tutte le lezioni includeranno esempi tratti dalla letteratura, da testi tecnico-scientifici e audiovisivi oltre che da brevi esercitazioni pratiche.

Course description:
This course aims to offer students those tools that can help them to carry out a metalinguistic analysis of the English language, in its synchronic and diachronic aspects, as well as its morphological, syntactical, lexical and textual issues, thus also aiming at an adequate competence. Moreover, this course seeks to stimulate the students’ appreciation of pragmatic instances and sociolinguistics features, especially considering the acceleration of growth of branches in the field, such as ELF (English Lingua Franca) and EIL (English International Language). It also aims to increase students’ language competence as a tool of interaction among speakers and as an object of variation. Finally, it considers aspects of sociolinguistics in connection to acquisition, gender and power.

Course description:
This course aims to further develop the students’ competences in the field of Second Language Acquisition. It will reinforce those strategies they have already acquired in the field of language teaching. All lectures are based on teaching theory and practice and coupled with practical activities that can be carried out individually and in group. In particular, this course will focus on the use of audiovisual translation practice to enhance language learning and teaching. At the end of this course, students will have raised their awareness regarding language acquisition, and they will be able to apply specific and effective strategies to language teaching, which are based on multimodal approaches and content.

Descrizione del corso:
Il modulo si concentra sull’umorismo nel campo della traduzione audiovisiva (Audiovisual Translation, AVT). Si partirà da una introduzione dei concetti teorici riguardanti lo studio dell’umorismo (Humour Studies), considerandone le sfide linguistiche, culturali e visive nella sua traduzione audiovisiva. In quest’ottica, saranno quindi discussi i concetti cardine collegati all’AVT e al suo sviluppo nelle ultime quattro decadi, facendo riferimento al doppiaggio, sottotitolaggio, voice-over, audio descrizione, ecc. Inoltre, si rifletterà sulle nuove tecnologie e come queste influenzino la pratica nelle varie modalità di traduzione audiovisiva dell’umorismo. Tutte le lezioni includeranno esempi tratti dalla letteratura, da testi tecnico-scientifici e audiovisivi oltre che da brevi esercitazioni pratiche.

Course description:
This course aims to offer students those tools that can help them to carry out a metalinguistic analysis of the English language, in its synchronic and diachronic aspects, as well as its morphological, syntactical, lexical and textual issues, thus also aiming at an adequate competence. Moreover, this course seeks to stimulate the students’ appreciation of pragmatic instances and sociolinguistics features, especially considering the acceleration of growth of branches in the field, such as ELF (English Lingua Franca) and EIL (English International Language). It also aims to increase students’ language competence as a tool of interaction among speakers and as an object of variation. Finally, it considers aspects of sociolinguistics in connection to acquisition, gender and power.

Course description:
This course aims to further develop the students’ competences in the field of Second Language Acquisition. It will reinforce those strategies they have already acquired in the field of language teaching. All lectures are based on teaching theory and practice and coupled with practical activities that can be carried out individually and in group. In particular, this course will focus on the use of audiovisual translation practice to enhance language learning and teaching. At the end of this course, students will have raised their awareness regarding language acquisition, and they will be able to apply specific and effective strategies to language teaching, which are based on multimodal approaches and content.

Curriculum
Margherita Dore graduated summa cum laude in English and Latin-American Studies at the University of Sassari in 2001. During her undergraduate studies, she attended an academic year at the University of Manchester (UK). After graduating she obtained a Master in Science in Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication at the Manchester University Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, now Manchester University) with a dissertation on the audiovisual translation of humour, which was supervised by Peter Fawcett (2002). During the academic year 2002/2003 she worked as Language Assistant in Italian at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Barcelona-Drassanes, in Spain (COMENIUS programme). She later started working as Lector in Italian at Lancaster University and simultaneously enrolled as part-time PhD student in Linguistics. In 2008 she obtained her doctoral degree with a thesis that further analysed the issues of humour translation in the audiovisual setting, which was supervised by Prof. Elena Semino. In 2009/2010 she was Visiting Scholar at the University of Athens where she carried out a postdoctoral project that analysed and compared Italian dubbing and Greek subtitling under the supervision of Prof. Eleni Antonopoulou. From November 2010 to December 2012, she worked as interpreter, translator and consultant on EU projects and calls at the Europe Direct Information Centre of the Municipality of Nuoro. From 2013 to 2020 she worked as Adjunct Lecturer in English and Transaltion Studies in several univeristies (University of Sassari, University of Cagliari, University of Naples "L'Orientale", University of Rome "La Sapienza", University of Rome "Tor Vergata"). During the academic year 2017-2018, she was research fellow under the superivision of Prof. Donatella Montini. In 2021, she was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Since 2003 she has also been working as freelance interpreter and translator for many Italian and international bodies and agencies. She is fluent in English and Spanish and can get by in Modern Greek. Margherita Dore is the author of "Humour in Audiovisual Translation. Theories and Applications" (Routledge, 2019, in Chinese by Wuhan University Press, 2023). She edited one essay collection on translation practice ("Achieving Consilience. Translation Theories and Practice", Cambridge Scholars Publisher, 2016), a special issue of "Status Quaestionis" on audiovisual retranslation (2018), one special issue of the "European Journal of Humour Research" on multilingual humour and translation (2019) and (with Klaus Geyer) a special issue of "InTRAlinea" on dialect, translation and multimedia, and a special issue of HUMOR (2026) on humour, trauma and healing. She (co)authored several papers on AVT and humour in translation and in a range of other contexts, including stand-up comedy.
