Objectives

The course aims to provide a basic knowledge of the history of the twentieth century and of the political, social and cultural transformations of the last hundred years. In particular, attention will be focused on the great events of the twentieth century and on the history of Italy from the liberal age up to fascism, the post-war period and the history of republican Italy. During the lessons the students will be called to intervene on the main topics of the lesson, on the links with the present, on the links between the individual themes and problems of contemporary history.

Contemporary history does not have an applicative nature. However, at the end of the course, the student will be able to move among the great themes of the twentieth century, managing to place them over time. He will then be able to evaluate the links between cause and effect, between the events of the past and contemporary reality, to distinguish new phenomena from facts and problems that are rooted in distant times.

the course involves the constant involvement of the students participating in the discussion at the end of each lesson. Films, documentaries and sources of different nature are part of the study material that will be analyzed and commented together. The aim is to stimulate and stimulate reflection, to teach public speaking, to strengthen one's own ideas through a correct exposition of one's own points of view.

The course has a seminar style. At the end of each lesson, students are invited to take action on what the teacher has to say. Therefore they are constantly stimulated to intervene. During the course there is a written exercise in class.

Given the setting of the course, students learn from the first lessons to carry out a bibliographic research in the historiographical field. Furthermore, the use of different sources allows them to access very different documents and materials.
