Hygiene: Definitions and objectives. Health and Illness. Definitions. Main indicators of the state of health of the population. Health determinants: biological, behavioral, environmental and health factors Sterilization and disinfection: definition and objectives. Definition of sterile medical device. Classification of medical devices based on the risk of infection in the patient. Sterilization:physical and chemical methods. Sterilization by dry heat and wet heat. Sterilization by ethylene oxide. Sterilization by ultraviolet radiation and gamma radiation. Sterilization by filtration. Disinfection. Disinfection of high, medium and low level. Requirements for a disinfectant. Factors that influence the activity of disinfectants. Continuous, periodic and terminal disinfection. Handwashing: simple, antiseptic and surgical. Environmental hygiene: air, water, food and their eeffects on health condition Air pollution. Thermal inversion. Natural and anthropogenic pollutants. Air pollution sources.
