PATIENT ADMISSION IN MEDICINE
PATIENT ASSESSMENT AND CARE MANAGEMENT
THERAPY MANAGEMENT
Systems for drug distribution, supply, and storage.
Pharmacological prescription.
Regulatory, ethical, and deontological aspects in drug administration.
Sample drugs: regulations on management and storage.
Management of poisons and narcotics.
Recap of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics definitions.
Drug dosage calculation: percentages, proportions, dilutions, fractions.
Nursing roles and responsibilities.
Preparation and administration of drugs: the 7 rights rule.
Routes of drug administration:
oral, sublingual, and nasogastric therapy.
Topical therapy.
Administration of drugs via ocular, auricular, rectal, and enteral routes.
Parenteral therapy: intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
Insulin administration.
Intravenous therapy: preparation, administration, use of flow regulators, infusion pumps, and syringe pumps.
Oxygen therapy.
Informed consent for therapy.
Management of peripheral venous catheters.
Peripheral, capillary, and blood culture venous sampling.

DIAGNOSTICS
Nursing competence, responsibility, and technique in:
instrumental exams: radiological exams with and without contrast medium, CT scan, and MRI,
ultrasound exams and nuclear medicine exams with radioactive isotopes;
endoscopic exams: gastrointestinal endoscopy, bronchoscopy.
Execution technique and assistance for: thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, pericardiocentesis, liver, kidney and bone biopsy, bone marrow aspiration.
Management of urinary catheterization.
Prerequisites
Training and basic education to ethics
Teaching mode
The lessons will be held in person, with the help of slides that include photographic and video material for
educational purposes that will be useful for a critical commentary of the topics covered.
Exam mode
The student evaluation will be based on an oral exam that will take place together with the other teachings
of the integrated course. The final vote will be the average of the votes obtained by the student for each
subjects of the integrated course. To Pass the test student must obtain a note of 18/30. Student must
possess a sufficient knowledge of the program. To obtain a note of 30/30 with distinction student must
possess an excellent knowledge of the whole program using a correct terminology to expose the topics.
