Course program
The nursing process includes: assessment, diagnosis, goal identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The practice/simulation covers: Use of airway support devices such as the self-inflating bag (AMBU) and the Waters circuit (“to and fro”); Application of artificial airways including oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways; Management and characteristics of tracheostomy cannulas; Management and characteristics of endotracheal tubes; Care of the tracheostomy site and replacement of the endotracheal cannula; Suctioning of the tracheostomy or endotracheal tube; Use of supraglottic devices such as the laryngeal mask and laryngeal tube; Functioning of thoracic drainage systems like Pleur-evac and Heimlich valve; Performance of Basic Life Support and Defibrillation (BLSD) maneuvers.
Prerequisites
Attendance is required as follows: Successful completion of Laboratory 1 and 2; A minimum attendance rate of 67% for laboratory activities; Mandatory attendance for the modules related to the critical care area, gynecology, and Mental Health.
Frequency
The attendance of 67% of the total available hours is mandatory.
Exam mode
The eligibility for Laboratory Activity 3 will be assessed based on: Active participation in lessons; Development of the care plan for the assigned clinical case, with an optional PowerPoint presentation. Knowledge and Understanding (Dublin 1): The student will demonstrate understanding and application of the nursing process and the ability to assess the basic needs of the patient. Applying Knowledge and Understanding (Dublin 2): The student will show competence in basic nursing techniques and procedures. Making Judgements (Dublin 3): The student will be capable of making care decisions, personalizing care, evaluating outcomes, taking professional responsibility, and addressing organizational challenges. Communication Skills (Dublin 4): The student will use appropriate technical language effectively in discussions.
