Course program
In addition to the requirements for the first and second years of the course, students must demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following areas: KNOWLEDGE Students must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of: principles of healthcare service organisation; - definition of criteria for assigning tasks to different members of the healthcare team - management of basic and advanced cerebral-vascular resuscitation episodes types of mechanical ventilation in relation to the pathological conditions of the person being cared for - global triage - administrative management of drugs and medical devices, in particular administrative management of the register of narcotics loading and unloading SKILLS The student must demonstrate the ability to implement and evaluate complex techniques such as: - extraction of faecal impaction in adults - performance of arterial and venous blood gas analysis - evaluation of gas exchange alterations through the detection of respiratory and blood gas parameters - detection and interpretation of PVC in relation to the clinical condition of the person being cared for - detection and management of advanced intracranial pressure monitoring - detection and interpretation of data from functional assessment scales - emergency acceptance and assessment (ward and other services) - managing a tracheostomy - aspiration of oro-nasopharyngeal secretions - aspiration of tracheal secretions SKILLS Students must demonstrate technical, relational and conceptual skills in the following areas: - planning care and ensuring the safety of patients with impaired consciousness (including psychotropic substances) - planning care for people with all types of conditions, in particular neurological, rehabilitative, orthopaedic and psychiatric conditions - planning the patient's discharge and possible transfer to another care setting - planning pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing neurosurgery - designing educational plans in relation to the nursing care needs of the person being cared for and their family - designing and implementing therapeutic education interventions - designing and managing internal and external transport of stable patients or patients in critical condition Students must demonstrate critical thinking skills - collaboration in the drafting of individual rehabilitation plans - transfer of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the sphere of professional competence to first- and second-year students
Prerequisites
Before starting the internship, students must complete a mandatory safety course and a 30-hour professional training workshop (1 CFU). In order to be admitted to the internship II exam, students must have completed at least 750 hours of professional training with positive results. The internship programme generally consists of four placements in specialist medical and surgical departments, intensive care, resuscitation, emergency room, maternal and child health, and psychiatric wards, chosen on the basis of the student's previous experience and training needs.

Frequency
Attendance at laboratory activities is compulsory for a total of 30 hours (1 credit). Attendance at the internship is compulsory and must consist of 750 hours (15 credits).
Exam mode
The written test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (each task is personalised through Sapienza's Mesiv service) based on clinical skills: identifying care issues, priorities, identifying/choosing interventions and evaluating their effectiveness. The oral test assesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of scientific content, as well as judgement in relation to low-complexity care and organisational situations, and assesses interpersonal skills and appropriate use of terminology. The practical test consists of describing/performing or simulating procedures in a manner that is safe for the patient and the operator; identifying and describing the necessary equipment.
Lesson mode
Classroom lessons in a simulation lab equipped with mannequins and consumables, and small group exercises. Classroom lessons equipped with a whiteboard and projector for presenting slides and videos.
