Course program
Cell cultures in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic applications - Cell cultures: definition and types, culture materials and conditions, sterility and contamination - Primary cultures: isolation protocols for epithelial cells, mesenchymal cells, adult stem cells, iPS and organoid cultures - Cell culture diagnostic applications: virological, oncological and functional diagnostics - Clinical applications of cell cultures: cell therapies, in vitro reconstruction of epithelial and mucosal tissues. Examples of applications in different pathologies
Prerequisites
No special skills are required to attend the ADE
Books
Teaching material presented during the lessons will be provided to the students either in electronic format or as paper material. It will also be recommended useful material for any further study.
Teaching mode
The teacher delivers lectures with traditional methods, blended methods or remote methods, according to the existing provisions, with audiovisual aids and scheduling of lessons as reported on GOMP Aule/Orari system, published on the website of the Degree Course. If possible, depending on the number of students and on the existing health provisions, part of the ADE is carried out in the laboratory, dividing the students into small groups.

Exam mode
The evaluation is carried out ongoing, through questions on the topics covered and through practical laboratory exercises (where possible). For the purpose of awarding the final qualification, attendance at lessons is also taken into consideration.

Course program
A first part of the elective teaching activity lesson (2 hours) will be dedicated to examining the general concepts of flow cytometry: technical principles and clinical applications. A second part (3 hours) will focus on: Flow cytometry for the study of cytokines, immune system cells, circulating tumor cells, circulating stem cells. Variables affecting the analysis. Choice of filters and detectors to avoid i. The main components that characterize cytometers. Quality system in cytometry. A third part (5 hours) During exercises at the MCEL laboratory, students can participate / assist, always under the supervision of the teacher in charge, in the analytical phase of biological samples. In particular there will be a part on the preparation of samples for reading on the instrument and a second part on data analysis and interpretation.
Prerequisites
The student who accesses the ADE must have followed the Courses of the first and second year and have acquired the preparatory notions of Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Histology. In the previous year the student must have also acquired a good study methodology and an adequate self-assessment capability.

There are 5 hours of frontal teaching and 5 hours for an exercise at the MCEL laboratory.

Exam mode
The learning will be verified through a written test consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions. The exam will be considered passed if the student correctly answers seven questions out of 10
