Course objectives

Knowledge and understanding: students will be able to understand the functioning of market economic systems, both at the micro and at the macro level. Applying knowledge and understanding: students will be able to use their knowledge to interpret issues related to current industrialized economies. Making judgement: students will develop the ability to evaluate independently the current economic debate. Communication skills: students will develop the ability to present and discuss basic micro- and macroeconomic theories. Learning skills: students will be able to learn abstract analyses of economic problems, based on systems of equations and graphical representations.

Course program
I Production theory and supply in markets, consumer behaviour and market demand, and the structure and implications of perfect competition. Welfare economics, market failures, their impact, and the analysis of non-competitive markets. Calculation and significance of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), examination of aggregate demand, money's role and impact, and inflation and unemployment dynamics. IS-LM model and the AD-AS model in macroeconomic analysis, fiscal policy, and monetary policy frameworks, the balance of payments, and the functioning of open economic systems.
