Course objectives

The learning objectives of the course are: acquisition of cultural and methodological experience in order to ask for appropriate tests or particular types of analysis critical assessment of results obtained by applying specific laboratory methods, based on the knowledge and experience gained interpretation of data laboratory results.

Course program
This module aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the role of the Clinical Analysis Laboratory in the diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis of various pathological conditions, with particular focus on unconventional biological fluids and emerging methodologies. The contribution of laboratory diagnostics to neoplastic diseases, pregnancy, and renal disorders will be examined in detail. The program also includes an integrated exploration of laboratory medicine in major endocrinological disorders, with the objective of highlighting the central role of diagnostic tests in the evaluation, follow-up, and management of hormonal diseases. The module will address the pathophysiological foundations and clinical applications of the main laboratory markers involved in thyroid, adrenal, gonadal, and glucose-metabolism disorders, with particular emphasis on interpreting results in relation to the clinical context and biological variability. This multidisciplinary approach will enable students to understand how laboratory diagnostics support early diagnosis, risk stratification, and personalized treatment in endocrine diseases.
Prerequisites
For a proper understanding of the course, students should have a solid grasp of fundamental biochemistry concepts and basic knowledge of immunology.

Exam mode
The assessment consists of a written examination comprising a multiple-choice test (7 questions) and 3 open-ended questions. An oral examination will be available for all students wishing to improve the grade obtained in the written test. For the anatomy exam, only an oral test is required. To pass the exam, students must provide satisfactory answers to the open-ended questions, demonstrating that they have acquired adequate knowledge of the topics addressed.
Lesson mode
The course consists of traditional lectures. During the lessons, the instructor engages students with questions related to the material just presented, with the aim of encouraging active participation and stimulating study at home, lesson by lesson.
