Course program
The course addresses in an integrated manner both the regulatory and management aspects related to CDW, as well as the technological and practical solutions for their recovery. It will start from a detailed classification of the materials generated in controlled demolition processes, distinguishing between structural, plant, cladding and insulating elements, and analyzing the related criticalities (such as the presence of contaminants, composite materials, hazardous substances, heterogeneous mixtures). The topic of rubble management in complex contexts will be addressed, such as large industrial plants (e.g. warehouses, prefabricated buildings, plant lines), contaminated areas or areas affected by seismic events. The most advanced technologies for the selection and treatment of materials will then be explored in depth, such as “sensor-based sorting” through optical sensors (RGB, X-ray, NIR, hyperspectral) and the integration of predictive models for the classification of materials (PCA, PLS-DA, neural networks). Students will be actively involved in practical experiences, exercises and real case studies, using high-resolution sensors and image analysis software for the selection and valorization of materials.
Prerequisites
no prerequisites
Books
The material will be provided by the teacher and will include handouts, regulations, technical articles and case study sheets. Software for the processing of multispectral data and multimedia materials for the technical and laboratory part may also be included.
Frequency
Attendance is not mandatory, but strongly recommended, since practical case studies and discussions on real technical problems related to the characterization and treatment of demolition materials will be addressed during the lessons.
Exam mode
The evaluation will be carried out within the activities planned for the course
Lesson mode
Front-class/traditional teaching The teaching activity will be organized by combining different models: frontal lessons, in-depth seminars, laboratory experiences, group work with presentation in the classroom and writing of a written research.
