Course program
This course will analyze the main transformations that took place in the global film industry from the 1950s to the end of the 1980s, focusing in particular on the category of arthouse cinema. Taking into consideration technological, aesthetic, socio-cultural, and economic aspects, the course will provide an overview of the concept of arthouse cinema, with specific reference to European and U.S. film cultures. A specific emphasis will be put on certain movements and trends: from Italian auteur cinema to the French nouvelle vague, as well as German, Japanese, British cinemas and the New Hollywood.
