HISTORY OF DANCE

Course objectives

Knowledge and understanding: Acquisition of the main methodological tools for the historical study of dance Knowledge of choreographic forms in a historical-critical and anthropological perspective. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Ability to analyze documents and dance phenomena using categories and methods of historiography. Autonomy of judgment: Ability to evaluate interactions between artistic, institutional and social instances. Communication skills: Ability to present contents, methods and problems of the history of dance with correct terminology and argumentative propriety. Ability to argue historical-theatrical analyses with clarity and coherence. Learning skills: Development of skills useful for continuing studies in the disciplines of entertainment and the arts. Ability to study independently, even on complex and multidisciplinary materials. At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify and describe the main moments, choreographers, dancers, dance styles and practices of the history of dance in the West in a non-Eurocentric but anthropologically oriented perspective.
