Course objectives

Students will be provided with an in-depth knowledge in a comparative sense of Romance languages ​​and literatures, as well as of the linguistic-philological method, through the study of exemplary authors, texts and research topics and the discussion of relevant critical bibliography. The student will develop new skills in the analysis of languages ​​and novel texts by comparing their structural and functional characters in a historical key, comparing similar objects and acquiring contrastive analysis skills on languages, texts, themes, forms, literary genres.

Course program
Introduction to reading medieval narrative The course will cover the history of medieval novels, focusing on their origins, and then move on to a commentary on selected passages from 12th- and 13th-century texts. The course will take both a diachronic and comparative approach, opening up the analysis of medieval narrative to reflection on the modern history of the novel genre.
Prerequisites
The student must have passed the exam of Fondamenti di Filologia e Linguistica romanza.
Books
The reference texts will be provided by the teacher.
Frequency
Attendance is highly recommended.
