Course objectives

LEARNING RESULTS: At the end of the course the student must be able to decipher the different contents of the course in the light of the different theoretical perspectives presented. It must also be able to recognize the psychological dimensions involved in discursive interactions inside and outside the school. Finally, it must be able to use tools for reading and planning educational contexts SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED: Critically use theories and paradigms to design and support teaching / learning processes The course also includes training objectives directly related to practical experiences. The student will conduct a small empirical study that will lead him to deal with institutional contexts assigned to teaching or training, to measure himself with the application of evaluation tools and the interpretation of the results obtained. To achieve the training objectives, the student must acquire the following skills: - master specialized concepts and terminology of the discipline - translate theoretical constructs of evaluation tools into empirical research in an educational context - elaborate empirical experience itself in a coherent written form.

Course program
During the course, both classic and contemporary theories within the field of Developmental Psychology will be explored. A particular focus will be placed on constructs related to mental functioning, including learning theories, cognitive theories, and attachment theory. Special attention will be devoted to the educational context. Lectures will be complemented by possible theoretical and practical activities. In the first part of the course, theories of child development will be examined in depth, providing a solid foundation for the second part of the course, which will address more recent theoretical perspectives. Constructs related to mental functioning will be reviewed, with an emphasis on motivation, metacognition, and learning strategies. Throughout the course, a continuous focus will be maintained on the school environment and the role of teachers. In the final part of the course, attention will turn to the importance of family relationships in the child’s development and education, encouraging reflection and discussion on awareness and possible intervention strategies.

No specific prior knowledge is required.
Frequency
Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended.
Exam mode
For attending students: - 20 multiple-choice questions - Presentation (up to 6 points): Individual or group presentation on an agreed topic, aimed at exploring a subject from the syllabus in greater depth and fostering the connection between theories and educational practices. - One open-ended question (up to 5 points) For non-attending students: - 25 multiple-choice questions - Two open-ended questions (up to 3 points each)
