Course program
Respiratory Diseases - Notes on the anatomy of the respiratory system; anatomical, radiological, and functional correlations. - Application of a mechanical model to study the respiratory system: work of breathing and dyspnea. - Static thoracopulmonary mechanics. Determinants of lung volumes. Restrictive dysfunctional syndromes: parenchymal and parietal patterns. - Dynamic respiratory properties: airway resistance, determinants of maximum expiratory flow, obstructive dysfunctional syndrome, concept of flow limitation, dynamic hyperinflation. - Alveolar ventilation and gas exchange; - The main diagnostic techniques for assessing respiratory function: study methods, test interpretation, clinical applications. - The main respiratory signs and symptoms: dyspnea, cyanosis, cough, sputum, hemoptysis. Semiological characteristics, etiopathogenesis, clinical correlations. - Acute respiratory failure (ARDS) and chronic respiratory failure. - Community-acquired pneumonia, hospital-acquired pneumonia, and pneumonia in immunocompromised patients. - Tuberculosis - Obstructive pulmonary diseases: bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary emphysema, and bronchiectasis. - Fibrosing and non-fibrosing interstitial lung diseases: sarcoidosis, pneumoconiosis. - Pleural effusions. Empyema. Pneumothorax. - Primary and secondary pulmonary hypertension. - Pulmonary thromboembolism. - Acute and chronic cor pulmonale.
