Course program
The course focuses on target language competencies required at level B1 on the CEFR. Students will revise the main tenses (present, past and future tenses), the passive form and causatives, conditionals type 1-2-3, relative clauses, modals of deduction and speculation, habits in the present and the past (used to, be used, get used to, would). An important aspect of the course is working on word formation: the formation of new words from existing ones and identifying how words change according to their context by using prefixes, suffixes, new words or by changing the grammatical category of a word. This practice allows students to expand their vocabulary and to better understand the concept of word families, how a single root word can have many different forms. Topic related vocabulary and phrasal verbs will also be part of the syllabus. Knowing phrasal verbs allows students to sound more natural, to paraphrase effectively and to express more complex ideas concisely.
