Course objectives

The main objective of the course is to consolidate the basic knowledge of film history (social, economic and cultural aspects included) in order to arrive to understanding the essential expressive platform of the cinematic medium and its evolution over time. Some hermeneutics and practical aspects of the aesthetics of cinema and social theory will also be discussed, which will take into account the development and the working principles of the cinematographic and, more generally, audio-visual language.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites to attend the lessons.
Frequency
The course includes lectures and students are advised to attend, since works are analyzed in detail during the lessons.
Exam mode
To pass the exam, a grade of at least 18/30 is required. The student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired sufficient knowledge of the topics of the history of cinema and audiovisual media, a basic knowledge of the constituent elements of a film and an audiovisual work, and that he/she is able to clearly present the historical, theoretical, and critical elements necessary for an understanding of the history of cinema and audiovisual media. To obtain a grade of 30/30 with honors, the student must instead demonstrate that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
Lesson mode
The course will reconstruct the relationships between cinema, radio, and television, and the connections between these different media. This reconstruction will be accomplished through a historical survey and analysis of the films on the program: for each film, the origins, production, cultural connections, and the history of their era will be reconstructed. The focus will be on two Italian figures who worked in the interconnected world of cinema, television, and radio: Vittorio Sindoni and Alberto Talegalli.
