Course objectives
- critical mastery of the economic and political terminologies inherent to current dimension of "development" - knowledge of the critical literature on growth and de-growth - ability to identify "cultural" components in "development" - ability to know and use essential elements for setting up a development project - ability to know and to use ethnographic fieldwork procedures in "development"

Course program
The general objective is to retrace the theoretical, critical and methodological tradition of development anthropology to identify the areas of research and intervention still prevalent with respect to the study of social change, cultural transformation, planned and participatory interventions, with particular regard to global local dynamics. The expected knowledge and skills concern: an updated overview of the relationship between the study of development and anthropological research; a summary of the infra and interdisciplinary debate; an exhaustive scenario about the institutional system of development cooperation; an adequate understanding of the importance of contemporary anthropological research (fieldwork and scientific research) inside the development cooperation system. The specific objective concerns an in-depth reflection on human and sustainable development in the Anthropocene era.

Si prevede la valutazione individuale degli studenti sia orale che scritta sulla base di tesine concordate o presentazioni P.p.t. (Written and oral self-assessment; working papers and oral presentations)
L’esame finale consiste in una prova orale (Final evaluation: oral exams).
La frequenza è considerata nella valutazione complessiva (Attendance is recorded and it can influence the final grade).

Class attendance 20%
Short papers and Workshops attendance 60%
Final oral exams 20%
No attending students: short paper (assigned title, n. 8/10 pages) 60%; final oral exam 40%.
