HISTORY OF MODERN ART

Course objectives

the course is aimed at the knowledge and in-depth study of the historical-artistic panorama of Italy between the 17th and 18th centuries, with particular reference to the most innovative artistic personalities who established themselves in European culture. The specific objective of the course is the acquisition of the method of stylistic reading of images, as well as the critical ability to compare works of art belonging to different chronological and geographical areas.

Course program
The course intends to trace a path in particular among the protagonists of eighteenth-century Venetian painting. We want to observe, first of all, the international fortune of some artists in the relationship with the taste of the time, analyze the specificity of the figurative proposal and, at the same time, its resistance in comparison with the classicist language unanimously welcomed in Europe with the advancement of the eighteenth century.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of the methodological and historical-critical directions of the history of modern art, is recommended reading the text: V. Curzi, Histories of art. Works and methods, Milan, Skira 2023
