Curriculum

Mariella Pazzaglia received her degree in Psychology in 2004 and her Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2008. She became a Research Professor in November 2010, at University of Rome " La Sapienza". She then worked as a senior research fellow at the IRCCS S. Lucia Hospital where she leads the Clinical Neuroscience (http://mariellapazzaglia.com/) research group. In the past 10 years, her interest becomes fascinated by the emerging field of Clinical Neuroscience and have contributed mainly on understanding how people respond to experiences of body and action. Her studies on neural basis of action in brain-damaged patients and bodily sensations in spinal cord injured patients has been published in many peer-reviewed publications including Current Biology, Neuron, and The Journal of Neuroscience, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Behavioral Brain Science, Physics Life Review, Current direction in Psychological Sciences, Cortex. She has been awarded grants from the MIUR and EU-funded projects. In 2012, she was awarded a grant for her work in embodiment and disembodiment in spinal cord injury by the SWISS International Foundation for Research in Paraplegia (IRP, P133).n 2019 she was awarded a grant for her work on embodiment and agency of assistive tools in Ricerca Finalizzata, Italian Ministry of Health. Recent awards include the 2014 Social Brain FENS in Copenhagen, Denmark for studies on the embodiment of assistive tools. She is director of Clinical Neuroscience Lab at University of Rome " La Sapienza" and Corpo e Azione Lab at IRCCS S. Lucia Hospital.
